This is it. All of my blog posts have been building up to this blog post. My entire website has been made to answer this one question. What would happen to the world in the event of a nuclear attack? It is an extremely terrifying thought. A nuclear attack would devastate the world. It would destroy millions of people through the explosion and then millions more through radiation and nuclear fallout. That is only the damage from one bomb. What if we were attacked by two or three or ten? What if we completely engaged in nuclear warfare? Back and forth constant attacks with nuclear weapons. That could be the end of the world. A full out nuclear war could completely destroy this planet. The first thing we are going to look at is what the government will do in the event of a nuclear attack. They got rid of the siren system in 1992. We will no longer here sirens in the event of a nuclear attack. Instead, we will get a text message saying we are about to get hit with a nuclear weapon. The problem is there might not be a lot you can do when you get a text message. Most likely there would not be enough time to get away from the attack if you tried. Even if you did get far enough from the blast, you are now exposed to radiation and the effects will just kill you over time. If you were near the blast, you would probably be incinerated or part of you would be. Even if everyone got out of the blast radius in time and nobody was exposed to radiation, the area that was exposed to radiation would be uninhabitable for decades. The next thing we will look at are the long term effects of a small nuclear war. The first thing that would happen is five megatons of black carbon will be released into the atmosphere. Black carbon can be compared to soot. When this happens the rain will be infected with black carbon and it would block out the sun forcing the temperature to drop. After a year, the temperature would be 2 degrees cooler than it is now, and after five years the temperature would be 3 degrees cooler than it is now. After twenty years, it would warm up to one degree below the average temperature. The drop in temperature would “killing frosts” that would reduce the growing season by forty days. The destruction of some of the ozone layer would leave us unprotected from UV rays, making it much more likely for people to get skin cancer. This combined with temperature change would result in a nuclear famine and the loss of nine percent of rainfall. This sounds like a great place to live. A nuclear war would be catastrophic to the human race. Poison rain, drop in temperature, nuclear famine, and drop in rainfall will lead to the death of millions. A nuclear attack is imminent. It might happen tomorrow, it might happen one-hundred years from now. Eventually some terrorist organization is going to get there hands on a nuclear weapon and use it to kill a lot of people. Before that happens, we need to figure out a way so the scenario I just described does not happen. We cannot just dismantle all the nuclear weapons in the world, because that would leave us defenseless against terrorist organizations with really smart people. We need a plan that would save the human race in the event of an attack, and also provide a place for them to live in case all of the tragedy just described actually happens. Whew! That was a downer. Thank you for reading through all my happy and cheery blog posts. There is a video of cute puppies that can detox your system below.
